After another really late, late night watching Great Expectations yet again I got to thinking about what it was that I really liked about it. I don't think Gwyneth Paltrow is all that pretty, Ethan Hawke is not that good an actor; I guess it's just the story that I like. Exposure to the dark side of human nature is a revelation every time. And, like most of the world, I cheer for the underdog. Even when I'm my most practical, satirical, cynical, sceptical of moods, I can't help but feel good when the protagonist finally overcomes the odds.
